Having read about the benefits of CBN wheels, I decided that I wanted to try one out for myself. I looked around the websites of UK based suppliers and certainly, there were CBN wheels available, but I was unable to find any with a 5/8th inch arbor. I then found Woodturners Wonders and decided that the Mega Square wheel was exactly what I needed. Not only was it 5/8th inch bore but offered a full 1" of abrasive material on each side for flat grinding. The wheel slipped beautifully onto my grinder's arbor and within 10 minutes, was running completely true thanks to the comprehensive fitting instructions. I have already sharpened several skews and gouges and a couple of parting off tools. These wheels are superbly engineered and grind so well that I wish I had bought one years ago.
Top o’ the line wheel
Used one of these to sharpen all my lathe tools at a local woodturners club. Had good results before with those white wheels but with THIS wheel the edge was best ever. So I had to get one for myself. Superb quality. And instructions plus safety advice spot on. Spend the few extra bucks and buy one. Last forever.
4-1 Plus 180 Grit CBN Wheel
I have had my wheel for about two weeks now and have not used all its features. I have, however, used it to sharpen several of my lathe tools and would give it an A+!!! I installed the wheel with the recommended set of spherical washers and it runs true. The broad face of this wheel makes it easier to grind my tools and the 180 grit really does put on a good edge. I do plan to use the two radiused sides of the wheel in the future and was the other reason for choosing it. I chose this particular wheel based on the recommendations of an experienced wood turner and Ken Rizza. Both were very helpful and it's every bit as good as they said.
